NILS VÖLKER

Dear Friends,

The MB&F M.A.D.Gallery is thrilled to present Nils Völker's first ever "human-sized" kinetic art series, created in exclusivity for the M.A.D.Gallery.

Based in Berlin and renowned for his monumental installations displayed around the world, Völker excels at bringing everyday items to breathing or dancing life in perfectly choreographed performances.

The story of the “Fuchsia, Orange & Royal Blue” collection – featuring three animated works of art – begins with the popular honeycomb ornamentation, an item commonly used to decorate for parties. In his studio, Völker played with the décor to contrive inventive ideas for a kinetic work using electronics and programming.
A visual feast, each art piece performs an entrancing spectacle as the origami-esque paper decorations in powerful hues spin, fold, and unfold with choreographed precision similar to an Olympic synchronized swimming team. Völker’s three-dimensional works have wonderfully reimagined a common party trimming in art that is captivating whether in motion or fixed position.

“Orange” is a set of four brilliant tangerine-coloured paper honeycombs anchored on a square base measuring 50 x 50 cm. A limited edition of 28, it works as a small solo piece or as part of a diptych or triptych. The five raindrop-shaped paper honeycomb fans of “Fuchsia” stand in a single file line creating a striking visual on a long table. There are 18 pieces available measuring 112 x 7 cm in size. “Royal Blue”, limited to 8 pieces, features 16 circular fans in a vibrant cobalt hue dancing on a 110 cm square frame.

The spirit of the MB&F M.A.D.Gallery is captured in this mesmerizing collection thanks to Völker’s clever use of exacting technology to transform what we might consider fairly common objects into animated mechanical marvels. Watching the honeycomb fans pirouette and twirl in unison makes our hearts beat a little faster here at the M.A.D.Gallery.

The MB&F M.A.D.Gallery would like to take this opportunity to wish you a great holiday season!
