Dear Friends,

It started out as a crazy idea about a year ago… Today the M.A.D.Gallery is on one of the most interesting streets in the heart of Geneva, just a few steps away from our workshops: on rue Verdaine, you won’t find the usual, standardised, megabrand stores – only carefully-curated boutiques and galleries with distinctive, hard-to-find selections inside.

As the name implies, we didn’t want this to be a boutique, we wanted a Gallery – a creative platform to host not just our own Horological Machines but also all sorts of other Machines from around the world, by creators whom we admire. Many of these creators have yet to be discovered… I think they’ll amaze and amuse you in many different ways.

The M.A.D.Gallery is really an extension of the MB&F concept: the creators we showcase are a new set of Friends. Their creations transcend a practical purpose, just like us: our MB&F Machines are timepieces of course but, more than that, we think of them as three-dimensional kinetic sculptures.

Thanks to the M.A.D.Gallery we’re meeting like-minded artists operating in parallel worlds; people who think like us and share our passion for creating kinetic art. It’s a two-way street with lots of exchange involved… creating a very stimulating creative environment and – just as important – it’s lots of fun.

Some of the first examples are the incredible “Machine Lights” by Frank Buchwald in Berlin, the transformer sculptures by Chinese artist Xia Hang, or the kinetic objects by Laikingland, an English pair with a great sense of humour. We call them Mechanical Art Devices – the “M.A.D.” in M.A.D.Gallery. And you’ll also find the complete MB&F collection, including the recent
Legacy Machine N°1 and HM4 Limited Editions.

We look forward to your visit. In the meantime, to give you a feel of the place, have a look at the short video or check out the dedicated M.A.D.Gallery section on our website: www.madgallery.ch

The collection evolves continuously, with new arrivals already planned throughout the year. So stay tuned – we’ll keep you informed via this M.A.D. newsletter, which will run in parallel to the original MB&F newsletter you know already.

If you like MB&F, there’s a good chance you’ll like the M.A.D.Gallery!

Very best regards

Not your usual window dummy!
Matsui and his team have invested their energies into developing humanoid robots – machines that mimic the appearance of human beings, but also move with the same grace and poise… and even remember the different effects their posturing has on onlookers.
